Lyrics / Re: Lyrics 2011/12/30

I'm thinking of changing the first verse like so:

The rich get richer and the rest of us get screwed<-- We don't all admit to being poor and I want it to be inclusive
While bankers bring home billions, millions barely bring home food
The middle class shrinks; our investments run dry <-- not in love with this line, but again, going for inclusiveness
And I, for one, am wondering why
While the rich get richer the rest of us don't rise up <-- doesn't flow as well in this line, tho I like the alliteration
We just keep on working to line the pockets of the corrupt
We just keep believing one day we might be rich, too
But it's never gonna happen to someone honest like me or you

Live usually does try and do something smart and it's seldom quite as smart as it thinks it is. For instance it has probably miscalculated the bpm (which should be exactly 94.0) and put in a bunch of warp markers and is slightly re-timing the clips. In fact I just did what you described and it did do exactly that.

If you toggle off the "Warp" switch in the Sample section of the properties panel and set Start to 0 0 0 in each case, they will all line up like they're supposed to.

And yes, I think it's a good idea to bundle the whole Live project up and offer it as a separate download.

INSTRUCTIONS / How to use the forum
« on: January 01, 2012, 03:15:37 PM »

This forum is built on the Simple Machines Forum engine, which is a very widely used and quite standard forum engine. So it should be pretty intuitive to use for anyone who has used online discussion forums before.

For anyone who is unfamiliar with online discussion forums, the concept is quite simple once you get your head around a few key concepts and the terminology:

An individual message, written by a member of the site that is publicly viewable by the members of the forum and is generally either the first thing written about a Topic, or is a reply to a Topic. Most Posts can be replied to by other users.
When someone first posts about a Topic, they start a Thread of conversation, similar to an email thread, that consists of their initial Post and maybe some number of replies.
You are currently reading the Topic How to use the forum.
A collection of Topics. The Topic you are currently reading belongs to a Board called INSTRUCTIONS.
A collection of Boards. The INSTRUCTIONS Board belongs to the We are the 99 percent Category.
The entire collections of Categories, Boards, Topics and Posts. In this case the Forum is called Occupy This Song.
A user with special privileges and responsibilities to help maintain the Forum. Such privileges include the ability to modify, move and otherwise manage Topics, Boards and Categories.

Wishlist / People to make music videos

This song and its various incarnations need fun, informative, and compelling music videos.

Wishlist / Graphic Design/Logos

I've done a very simple logo:

But would love for someone to get busy doing some graphic design work and making this forum more unique and attractive.

Wishlist / Help with Mixing and Mastering

I am out of my depth when it comes to the subtle nuances of mixing mastering and I'd love to get help from those of you more adept than I.

Wishlist / Chanting Crowds
« on: January 01, 2012, 02:37:47 PM »
I want to get audio and video recordings of crowds chanting the chorus. And it shouldn't always be the same lyrics. In the lyrics forum ( we'll be writing other variations.

What would be great is if we can get a crew out to every occupation that is still running and get the people there assembled and record them shouting out:

"WE ARE THE 99%"

But it doesn't need to just be occupations, it can be any group of people you are a part of. I managed to assemble 15 people at my company in a dry room to record the crowd that's in the current mix (2011/12/30), but we didn't have enough time for them to get the hang of the rhythm properly, so I think I'll try and re-record them in the new year.

Wishlist / Remixes
« on: January 01, 2012, 02:32:26 PM »
I'd love people to start doing some completely different-styled remixes of the song, too.

Maybe there's already enough raw material in the first rough mix to get going on a dubstep remix or a minimal techno version or... whatever style you are inclined towards.

Wishlist / New Verses
« on: January 01, 2012, 02:30:24 PM »
There are a bunch of other important subjects that I haven't touched on in the verses and one chorus that I've recorded so far. In the lyrics forum ( I'll be discussing some of the other lines I have floating around that could be the seed to get something going, but it can come out of thin air, too, so if you're a lyricist, please chime in.

Wishlist / Other Rappers
« on: January 01, 2012, 02:27:13 PM »
If you or anyone you know can rap, I'd love to get some other voices doing some of the verses and if you wanna write your own verse - even better!

If you only feel comfortable doing backing vocals, that's great, too.

Instrumentation / Re: Crowd
« on: January 01, 2012, 02:15:01 PM »
That's cool. Thanks for the link.

I was thinking of seeing if I could get people in various cities where occupations are still going on to record the crowds there shouting out the crowd part.

Good point. I'm about to save out dry versions of all the tracks and upload those, too.
